The Elkhound is a reasonably large breed of dog that is covered by a smooth dense coat. This breed originated in Norway in order to hunt large game, as such as Elks. The Elkhound is extremely loyal, and very protective of those that it considers to be part of its pack.
Generally the Elkhound will get along with children and they normally respond well to training, which means they can be a good family dog. This breed does suffer from a predisposition towards developing blindness.
