The Deerhound sports a harsh, wiry coat of a reasonable length and is a large breed of dog, although they will often happily live in a small house, as long as they are exercised. The Deerhound requires regular exercise to stay healthy.
The breed is generally friendly and will be docile around adults and children alike. They are also hunting animals and will, if not controlled, be tempted to chase small animals, which may be problematic for some owners, particularly if a small pet, as such as a rabbit, is owned.
