The Basset Hound is a short dog that is used for tracking in hunting because of their incredible sense of smell. They have long ears and short coats and are renowned for their sad appearance.
Despite this they are extremely friendly and like to meet new people, as well as getting on well with children. The hounds can be hard to train, their natural stubbornness making it unlikely that they will act as they were taught to. They do make a good family pet though, and can be trained with enough work.
