The Australian Silky Terrier originated in Australia from crossbreeding between other terrier varieties, most probably the Yorkshire and Australian terriers. These are small dogs, who are friendly and who enjoy friendly relationships with humans, including children.
They are fairly energetic and, due to their fur not shedding, they may require above average maintenance. Their name draws on the fact that their coat has a silky texture that many find to be pleasant to the touch.
