The Akita is a breed of dog that originated in Japan and is extremely tall, standing as high as 70cm at times, that was originally used to run bears. These days it is a very popular house dog because it is very easy to train and is extremely loyal and gentle.
The Akita gets on well with children, and is very loyal and protective of those it knows, although it may be more aloof with people it does not know. It is a pack breed, which means that it likes to be around people it knows, and it will become distressed if left alone for too long.
