The Afghan hound, which originated in Afghanistan, is renowned for its thick, silky hair. The hound is often between 60 and 75 cm tall and is one of the large dog breeds. It was originally bred for hunting wolves and gazelles.
Afghan hounds are not renownd for their intelligence or obedience and they often display an independent streak which may be exhibited through a refusal to obey some of their owners commands. However, despite this they can be friendly pets, who can be playful despite their generally aloof appearance.
